The show she starred in was Mister Sterling and produced by Emmy Award winner Lawrence O'Donnell Jr. The actress was a part of the WB series The Bedford Diaries in early 2006. Following the season, she played a recurring character on NBC's TV show Kidnapped. McDonald received a nomination for a fourth Emmy in the year 2016 for her performance in HBO's production in the series Lady Day, at Emerson's Bar & Grill. In 2021, she starred in a telecast with Taylor Schilling and Steven Pasquale as part of The Bite, a pandemic film produced by Spectrum Originals and CBS Studios. She starred in 2009 as she was the U.S. Attorney Liz Lawrence on CBS's drama about lawyers The Good Wife. In 2018 McDonald took on the role of Liz Reddick as a regular on Paramount+'s The Good Fight. She was awarded three Critics Choice Award nods for this performance. The actress is currently a guest on Julian Fellowes' historical thriller The Gilded Age on HBO.
